This exhibition is produced in association with Affecting Real Change – a grass roots charity that works within local communities and facilitates responsible volunteering opportunities in the developing world. Over the past three years, Affecting Real Change has partnered with Portland School and Specialist College, a school for students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health difficulties in Stoke on Trent, to create exciting volunteering opportunities for marginalised young people in the Gambia.

The exhibition is linked to the talk An Evening for Gambia given by Elicia Gardner on 20th April.  This talk will focus on the Gambia Arts 2015 and 2016 projects: the project work that the young people completed, the classes that they have taught, the works of art that they have completed and the culture that they have experienced.

Elicia Gardner is a teacher at Portland School and Specialist College and a volunteer with the charity Affecting Real Change.  As of April 2016, she has led 5 volunteering expeditions to Bakau in the Gambia.
