The Creative Wardle Family and Their Legacy, an illustrated Talk by Dr. Brenda King.

Three members of the Wardle family of Leek worked with major figures to create world renowned textiles.Thomas Wardle, expert on India’s wild silks and dye-stuffs, attracted William Morris, and other Arts and Crafts designers. Their designs printed in Leek were renowned. George Y Wardle was manager of William Morris’s famous company for over twenty years. Elizabeth Wardle worked with eminent architects, producing embroideries for their buildings in Leek.

Brenda King will discuss why such an extraordinary range: of creative outpourings happened in Leek when it did.
