Jeremy Hardy vs. The Israeli Army.

When comedian Jeremy Hardy is asked to visit Palestine in April 2002 and do his bit to solve the world’s longest running conflict, facing the world’s fourth biggest military power is not his idea of a holiday.  Jeremy Hardy vs. The Israeli Army is a quirky, moving story about the courage and resolve of those who pack their bags for Palestine to stand in the way of tanks and bring an end to the occupation.

The group is screening this film as a tribute to Jeremy Hardy, who was a long-time friend of Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP), and a vocal supporter of their mission to help ensure the rights of Palestinians to health and dignity.

“Jeremy made jokes about his height,” said Aimee Shalan, MAP’s Chief Executive, “but as one of our trustees declared when they heard the news, he was a moral giant.”

Always ready to challenge injustice with a perfect combination of mischievous wit, his support for the rights of Palestinians was unflagging. He revelled in the implausible extent of Palestinian hospitality and managed to speak about the daily grind of the occupation without belittling the immense impact of its routine indignities. We’ve lost a wonderful friend.”
