two faces of january1962. A glamorous American couple, the charismatic Chester MacFarland and his alluring younger wife Colette, are holidaying in Athens. While sightseeing at the Acropolis they encounter Rydal, a young, Greek-speaking American who is working as a tour guide and scamming female tourists on the side. Drawn to Colette’s beauty and impressed by Chester’s wealth and sophistication, Rydal gladly accepts their invitation to dinner, but all is not as it seems with this sophisticated couple. Screenwriter Hossein Amini’s directorial debut is a taut, playful adaptation of Patricia Highsmith’s novel.

UK/US/France; 2014; 96 mins.

“Hossein Amini’s adaptation of a Patricia Highsmith novel is an elegantly pleasurable experience.”  Tim Robey, The Guardian.
