Two friends have made a drunken pact that, whenever one of them has to go, they’ll have the full Viking funeral they had always dreamed of. And then, sooner than expected, one of them has to go.

James Rowland, who wrote the show and performs in it, has worked in theatre, radio and television, and ‘Team Viking‘ won The Origins Award at London’s Vault Festival earlier this year.  The Vault Festival is London’s response to the Edinburgh Fringe.  He’s been at the Edinburgh Fringe just now with a subsequent show.

Tender poignancy and comic touches of sheer brilliance abound in this hugely acclaimed ode to death and friendship.  Threaded through with exquisite live music, this outlandish story of how one man gave his terminally ill friend the best Viking funeral he’d ever dreamed of, is remarkable.  Deeply personal, deeply felt, and delightfully comic.

Acclaimed by The Scotsman as a “funny, intimate show”; full of “magnificently clever” (Guardian) comedy theatre, it’s described as an ode to death and friendship: deeply personal with a tender poignancy and comic touches of sheer brilliance.

“As accomplished storytelling as you could hope to see. To call it a comedy about friendship, mourning and terminal illness – which it is – would in no way convey what a joyous thing it is” – The Stage.
