In the summer of 1915, Jean Renoir arrived at the summer home of his father, painter Pierre-Auguste. The artist was in ill health, as was his son, who had been injured fighting in the war. They were both enlivened by the presence of model and performer, Andrée Heuschling, who inspired Pierre-Auguste to create some of his finest late works and his son to pursue filmmaking. Gilles Bourdos’ film is a recreation of this rhapsodic summer. An extraordinarily beautiful film, shot on the scenic Cote d’Azur. The pace of the film reflects the pace of life at times, quiet and slow.
