A dark romance, My Cousin Rachel tells the story of a young Englishman (Philip Ashley) who plots revenge against his mysterious, beautiful cousin, believing that she murdered his guardian. But his feelings become complicated as he finds himself falling under the beguiling spell of her charms.  This 2017 version written and directed by Roger Michell  stars Rachel Weisz and Sam Claflin as Rachel and Philip.

“Rachel Weisz gives Olivia De Havilland (star of the 1952 film) a run for her money in a new screen version of Du Maurier’s twisty tale.….. Pitting Weisz’s captivating 19th-century widow against Sam Claflin’s baby-faced man-boy Philip Ashley, this saucily subversive dark romance mixes old-fashioned costumed intrigue with lustily modern psychological twists and post-Freudian thrills.”  Mark Kermode, The Observer.
