ROGER Monkhouse (no relation to Bob) headlines the next Leek Comedy Club, after a packed crowd saw a rollicking start to the new season last month.

One of the hottest acts on the circuit, Roger’s a consummate stand-up who employs a deadly combination of charm and menace to exert a masterful control over any audience in a routine universally and unfailingly hysterical.

He’s also happy to improvise freely with a crowd and is at great ease bantering with an audience, but has no shortage of first class observational material in his armoury, explaining why he’s one of the regular writers on Channel 4’s hugely popular comedy panel show 8 Out of 10 Cats.

Opening act Martin Mor, meanwhile, comes from Northern Ireland, and after a successful career as a circus performer, has turned his attention on the unsuspecting comedy circuit.

With more than 25 years experience as a professional performer, Martin’s established himself as one of martin mor the UK’s most popular and in demand comedians, performing in venues ranging from the Hammersmith Apollo to an Italian prison, and even before the members of the royal family.

Very much the comedian’s comedian, Martin has also been the support act of choice for Frankie Boyle, Jack Dee, Lee Evans, Jasper Carrot, Patrick Kielty, Johnny Vegas, Steve Coogan, and, once, Tina Turner.

“Martin is the act who has influenced me the most,” says Boyle. “The UK comedy circuit would not be the same without him.” Vegas, meanwhile, describes him as “a very funny lad with the best beard in the business.”

Most bizarrely of all perhaps, Martin’s photo is featured on popular board game Trivial Pursuits’ Genus Edition. On an arts entertainments square, he’s seen wearing a leotard!

With two support acts and a professional compere, it’s going to be another great night of laughter in Leek.
