THEATRE EVENT TO RAISE AWARENESS OF MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES

Local new writer Joseph Makepeace and award-winning production company Rotten Park Road, (RPR), based in Leek, are presenting a new play ‘Infinity’ – a thought-provoking stage play that marks one man’s journey through the psychiatric system.

Funded by Arts Council England, Big Lottery Fund and Staffordshire County Council, Professional artists from RPR have been working with the writer to develop his work, whilst also delivering drama workshops with participants from Leek Gateway Club. They are about to begin rehearsals and are extremely excited to be transforming Joseph’s written work to the stage. Directed by Larry Rew, ‘Infinity’ will be thought-provoking as well as entertaining, whilst also highlighting behavioural issues associated with mental health issues.

“The aim of this project is to help and engage people through theatre…it’s all about seeing how we can inspire, enhance and make a difference to people’s lives” – Lynne Payne, Producer

“I have recently been diagnosed with Bi-polar disorder. I have had a spent time in psychiatric hospitals both in this country and in Austria, where I was working as an English teacher. I also worked as a psychiatric care assistant for three years, so my experiences have afforded me a unique insight into both sides of the system. I have long harboured ambitions to be a writer and am extremely excited to see my play produced by a sympathetic local company such as Rotten Park Road.” – Joseph Makepeace , Writer

Over the past 5 years, RPR have worked with National Health service users, which has informed the content of their professional productions. The project will culminate in live performances of ‘Infinity’ in Leek, before taking the show to Birmignham as part of a double-bill. There will also be a post show talk for anyone who is interested in finding out more about the project:
