Ida new

A moving and intimate drama about a young woman’s search for the truth about her past in 1960s Poland. Anna is a novice nun who leaves her convent the night before her final vows, to meet her only surviving relative for the first time and so discovers a dark family secret. Shot in black and white, this beautifully photographed film is empathetically written and splendidly acted. The intersection of the personal with momentous historic events makes for one of the most powerful and affecting films of the year.

“There is not a frame in this austere spiritual journey that isn’t a thing of heartfelt beauty”.   The Times
