Geoff Archer Rocks exhibition at Foxlowe Arts Centre

Born in Manchester in 1945, having studied at Manchester Regional College of Art & Design, Geoff Archer gained a BA in Fine Art at Trent Polytechnic, his Art Teaching Certificate at Reading University and a Masters Degree in Art History at Manchester University.

Geoff Archer first produced rural landscapes in the late 1990s following a sustained period of drawing at the Roaches. The Roaches with Ramshaw Rocks form a gritstone escarpment within view of the Foxlowe Art Centre in Leek that guard the entrance to the Staffordshire Peak District like silent sentinels.

The Roaches and Ramshaw Rocks have provided Geoff Archer with years of endless inspiration. Geoff Archer explains that ‘the use of the close up is intended to draw the attention both to the process of observation analogous to peering through the cameras viewfinder and to the intricacies of form, pattern, texture and colour.’

The Oils and Watercolours of Geoff Archer in this latest exhibition at the Foxlowe Arts Centre will not only be of interest to art lovers but also walkers, climbers and an inspiration to locals and tourists alike. The exhibition runs from the 26th May to the 1st July. The Foxlowe Gallery is open 10am – 4pm Wednesday, Thursday, Friday & Saturday and 11am – 4pm on Sundays
