FOXLOWE: LAUNCH OF THE HERITAGE LOTTERY PROJECT.

David Bell.

This talk marks the launch of a two year programme of urgent repairs to the main building; and an activities programme telling the story of Foxlowe and its inhabitants over 250 years.

Foxlowe has been rescued with the hard work, skill and financial efforts of local people. Water damage has been forestalled; the whole building adapted for community use.

Now, with support from the Heritage Lottery Fund, SMDC’s Environmental Enhancement Fund and SCC’s Community Fund, we will at last be able to make the most vulnerable parts of our wonderful old building properly and completely watertight.

Alongside, in an exciting collaboration with Leek and District Historical Society, Borderland Voices, Buxton and Leek College, and Northern International Theatre, we will tell the story of Foxlowe and its occupants – wealthy private owners, a Red Cross hospital, a key textile Trade Union, a night club, and now an Arts Centre; and of their influence on local culture and society.

This is the first opportunity for you to find out more: for the building, what will be achieved, what remains to be done; and for the activities programme, to meet some of the people, to find out what will happen, and ways to become involved.

The lecturers in this programme ‘gift’ their talks to the Foxlowe, for which we thank them.

Admission is free, with a Bucket Collection, also for the Foxlowe, for which we thank you.
