Adapted by Ian McEwan from his own novel, The Children Act is a moving drama following an eminent High Court judge, for whom professional and personal crises collide as she approaches a critical ruling.  Emma Thompson plays Fiona Maye, who is presiding over the family court ruling on the case of a 17-year-old Jehovah’s Witness who is refusing a life-saving blood transfusion.  Richard Eyre directs this nuanced and intriguing drama, immeasurably aided by a stylish and emotionally literate performance from Thompson.

“Emma Thompson’s portrait of a family court judge who lets the world in at the cost of losing her own judgement is acting of the highest order.” Rolling Stone.
