After a fantastic day of “taster sessions” on Saturday 4th February, the places on our youth theatre workshops are filling fast.

If you are logging on to our web site after reading the Sentinel article, just a few corrections.

Yes, Katie White IS an ex pupil of Westwood High, but she went on to train specifically in leading youth theatre at London’s Central School of Speech and Drama. Central School is the Oxford to RADA’s Cambridge of theatre if you wish. Their stars range, over the generations, from Sir Laurence Olivier, onto Dame Judi Dench and many others and latterly Christoper Ecclestone, a former Dr Who and a leading actor, who is probably himself a future knight of the stage.

Now also a busy local school teacher, Katie, with her co-leader, Tasha Morley, who specialises in dance, movement and even fight choreography, blew us all away with their taster sessions. “We knew they were good, but they were absolutely brilliant.”  The joy on the children’s and young peoples faces said it all.

The remaining places for our Saturday morning workshops will go quickly. Log your details on the Youth Theatre page here and applications will dealt with strictly in order. This is going to be a major feature of the local youth cultural scene.

It has now been confirmed that the Saturday morning Foxlowe Youth Theatre workshops will start on the 18th February. They will then run each Saturday through to 24th March when there will be a break for the Easter holiday.

Foxlowe’s Youth Theatre in Leek, Staffordshire,  will be run over two sessions, 9.30 am – 11 am for 7 to 11 year olds and 11.30am to 1pm for those 12 to 16. There will be a free open day on February 4th, when you will be able to meet the Youth Theatre leaders, Katie White and Tasha Morley.

Katie White trained in Drama with Education at the prestigious London Central School of Speech & Drama. She is now a teacher at Westwood First School.  Tasha, leading in movement and dance, has skills which even include fight choreography.

As  well as performance skills, such as acting, singing, voice projection and confidence building, work will also include such things as stagecraft, props and scenery making, and later for the seniors, lighting and sound.

The cost of the workshops will be £39 per half term. There is initially a maximum of 25 places on each of the sessions so places are limited. Early registration is therefore recommended.

Fred Jeffries will be at the Foxlowe from 5pm to 7pm Thursday 2nd & Friday 3rd February for those who wish to pay early and ensure a place. At present the Foxlowe is unable to accept credit or debit cards, so a cheque or cash will be needed.
