Foxlowe Arts Centre brings professional theatre to Leek

Following the two successful shows earlier in the year, we’re pleased to be able to continue presenting professional theatre events, with four new shows booked.

The first is on Friday 14 October.  It’s called “Giants on the Hill”, and it’s very appropriate to us in the Moorlands.   It tells the story of a fictional rural community and the conflicts caused by the proposed siting of a windfarm in its vicinity.   Are windfarms a valuable and sustainable way to shift how we provide our energy?  Or are they just a financial liability and blight on our landscapes?  This quirky and engaging new play is brought by Centric Theatre Company.

Second, on Thursday 17 November, is Launch Party which comes from Farnham Maltings in a co-production with award winning Bucket Theatre.

“Martha and Vi are twins.  They grew up side by side, watching the stars, but recently they’ve drifted.  While Martha has stayed in their home village, laying down roots, Vi has been across the globe training as an astronaut, preparing to launch herself into the unknown.  Before Vi blasts off, Martha has arranged a party in the village hall to send her off in style – and you’re invited.”

Then in the New Year, we’re proud to be offering a show for 4 – 7 year olds:  “Shoe Kangaroo and the Big Bad Boot” from the long-established Garlic Theatre will be here on 25 January, and at the end of March Arletty Theatre are bringing Quilter and the Ghost.

These shows are brought to Leek with the support of Live & Local, the not-for-profit arts organisation working across Derbyshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire and Worcestershire. It supports a network of voluntary organisations that bring communities together to enjoy high quality, affordable and professional live performances and film screenings. Live & Local receives financial support from Arts Council England, Staffordshire County and Staffordshire Moorlands District Councils in order to be sure it can attract high quality work to communities like Leek.
