Albert Lee at Leek Arts Festival
Albert Lee played at Foxlowe Arts Centre on May 9th as part of Leek Arts Festival.
Here’s a small gallery courtesy of Leek Arts Festival of the evening.
Heritage Rooms Now Open
This gallery contains 16 photos.
The Heritage rooms at Foxlowe arts centre were opened on Friday, April 20th with two exhibitions organised by Cathryn Walton, Secretary of Leek & District Historical Society and Heritage coordinator at Foxlowe arts centre.
The two exhibitions feature a history of Leek’s textile mills and the many companies that were established in Leek and an overview of Leek’s rich heritage, including information on The Foxlowe and the Cruso family.
Leek Arts Festival
Foxlowe arts centre is hosting 14 events during May as part of Leek Arts Festival. Some of these events have been moved from the Swan after it closed in April and many of the events are selling out fast.
To see the full list of Leek Arts Festival events at the Foxlowe arts centre please go to our what’s on calendar. You can filter by category to just see the arts festival events or view our full calendar including exhibitions.

- Home to The Situation live music events
- Soon to be home to Leek Comedy Club
We’ve come a long way together but we couldn’t have done this without your help and support, Thank You.
Here’s to the future!
Midnight in Paris
There are just 6 tickets left for Midnight in Paris which are all on sale at Over the Rainbow on Derby Street, Leek. All other venues have sold out.
Foxlowe Films – Son of Rambow (12A)
Next weeks Tuesday night film at the Foxlowe is Son of Rambow (12A). We anticipate you’ll be able to buy tickets on the door, but if you want to be sure of getting in pick up tickets from any of the usual outlets (Foxlowe, Colloco, Boardman’s, Over the Rainbow). Check the calendar for full details of the film but it promises to be one to watch: – A “brilliantly written, imaginatively directed and superbly acted British comedy that is laugh-out-loud funny and thoroughly engaging. Highly recommended”. View London. Don’t forget the bar is open at 7 pm so come early and have a relaxing drink before the show.
Carol Phillipson Raffle
An all cotton quilt designed and stitched by Carol Phillipson to raise money for the Foxlowe arts centre (raffle tickets can be purchased from the Foxlowe gallery).
60″ square, it can be used for a bed topper, sofa throw, wall hanging or just to snuggle into on a cold evening.
The winning raffle ticket will be drawn at Carol’s talk ‘Through the eye of a needle’ at Foxlowe arts centre on Wednesday, April 25th, 2012
Foxlowe Films – True Grit
True Grit tickets are still available at all outlets around the town – Colloco (Sheepmarket), Over the Rainbow (Derby Street), Boardman’s Newsagents (Broad Street) and the Foxlowe Gallery. Last week we had a full house, although there were a few tickets available on the night. My week with Marilyn is now sold out (unless we get any returns), but there are still tickets left for all the rest of the programme.
We’ve had lots of positive feedback from the first two screenings. There are still things to get ironed out and we are aware seating is far from ideal. We asked the audience to say why an independent community cinema was important to them – these were just a few answers:
Several people valued being able to walk – “Waited 30 years for a cinema I can walk to” “I love film and to be able to walk here!”
Cost and travelling time was also important – “Much more lovely than going to the Potteries” “Cheaper. Closer to home – less travelling”
The sense of community was mentioned – “Community spirit, local, safe, small” “It brings the community together” “Watching films in company is much more fun”
The quality of films was also an issue – “Opportunity to provide films of a wide range” “Offers an alternative to the mainstream”
So, if you haven’t come along yet – why not give it a go. At £4 a ticket (£3 concessions) you can afford to just give it a try even if its not a film you have heard of before. Doors open at 7pm and there is a licensed bar, so you can relax, meet up with friends and have a drink before the film.
Foxlowe Film – update
If you have got a ticket for Jane Eyre this Tuesday, please note the front entrance of the Foxlowe will be open so there will be no need to access round the rear. We’re really looking forward to this screening and to seeing you all there!
Foxlowe Talks Programme

The talk will show how a hobby developed into an, at times, almost full-time occupation, from running a small cross-stitch business to being asked to lecture at the largest international patchwork show in the world. Retired teacher and author of seven books on cross-stitch and patchwork, Carol will offer an entertaining insight into the highs and lows of her “extra” life as a needlework and patchwork designer.

Tickets will be available soon from Colloco (Sheepmarket, Leek) and Boardman’s Newsagents (Broad Street, Leek). £5 with all proceeds for Foxlowe arts centre
